the real estate agent's role and responsibilities

Relying on specialized training and an extensive knowledge of the market, the real estate agent's primary role is to guide his client through the complex process of a real estate transaction.

He must ensure that the property transfer is done to the client's satisfaction, while complying with applicable laws and regulations.

To have a right to practice his trade, the real estate agent must necessarily be affiliated to a real estate broker. During a real estate transaction, the broker collects the compensation and pays it to the agent involved in the transaction.

In order to be successful professionally, the real estate agent needs to possess several qualities. Among the most important ones, he must be able to listen to his clients' needs, always be available and be a good negotiator. Since he is self-employed, he must also have strong organizational skills.

The real estate agent also has responsibilities towards his clients: he must protect their interests at all times, treat them fairly and act with honesty.
